Nothing beats a champ! Since 1948, the Champ has been one of the most sought-after and useful Fender amplifiers. While the model evolved quite a bit through the decades, the basic concept has always been the same: a simple single-ended tube amp that produces great tone at low volumes. The Champ is the ultimate practice amp, and it's also a tried and true studio tool. But for those of us who live in small spaces (or who would rather rock out at lower levels), the Champ allows for refined tone without needing to crank the decibels.

In 1964, Fender updated the Champ to the “Blackface” style—black Tolex covering and black front-mounted control panel with separate bass and treble controls. The Champ still used an 8" speaker, and the tube layout remained the same: 1x 12AX7, 1x 6V6, 1x5Y3. The blackface Champ produces 6 watts of pure tube tone, and they have more clean headroom than their tweed predecessors. With separated Treble and Bass controls (instead of just one tone knob), the Champ allows for more fine-tuning in the EQ. The result is a pedal-friendly, versatile template that you can crank at lower volumes, and they sound so good, too. Even at bedroom levels.

This 1965 Fender Champ was recently serviced by Chelli Amplification, and it sounds fantastic! One of the better blackface Champs we've heard. In servicing the circuit, Chelli replaced three filter caps, the power transformer (modern hammond in original '64 housing), and the cap can (modern CE Manufacturing). This Champ has a safe 3-prong power cable, and its baffle and grille cloth have both been replaced. The handle is also not original, and it now sports a brand new Weber Alnico Signature 8" speaker.

This '65 Champ runs nice and quiet, so it's an obvious choice for studio use. But for anyone who appreciates rich, saturated tube tone that doesn't blow the doors down, this '65 Champ has you covered!

Awesome introduction of classics to elementary children
We borrowed a bunch of Manga Classics from the library and The Scarlet Letter and Les Mis were my Grade 2 daughter's favorites. I read the books with them to discuss the faith and character issues. Included in the back are the artist and the writer's explanation on how they break down the novel into a manga format and translated the original ideas into drawings. What I love from these Manga Classics is that they didn't rewrite the content but pulled actual passages from the original text and added minor changes to make the storyline flow.

A good retelling of the highlights from the Scarlet Letter
A good retelling of the highlights from the Scarlet Letter. The art provides a good visual for a kid to reflect on after having read the story. The art for Wilson is very telling as well; he looks like the lout I always saw him as.
